Everybody’s Dad Kyle Chandler Joins Millie Bobby Brown in Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Friday Night Lights) has joined Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown in the cast of 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, as first reported by Variety.

The sequel to Gareth Edwards’ (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) 2014 Godzilla reboot will be directed by Krampus’ Michael Dougherty. While the first film starred Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen, the only two actors yet confirmed for the 2019 picture are Chandler and Brown, who will play father and daughter.

There have been no other plot details revealed about the film. For what it’s worth, we do know that before Edwards’ departure from directing the sequel, he spoke about bringing in classic monsters like Mothra and Ghidorah. While those plans could very well be abandoned by now, we’ll just have to wait and see.

We do know that the 2019 monster film will cross over with next month’s Kong: Skull Island, as the two beasts are slated to meet in 2020’s Godzilla vs. Kong. For now, it’s entirely up in the air how or if Chandler and Brown’s characters will connect to 2014’s Godzilla or Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ forthcoming, 1971-set Kong film. Perhaps the rumored post-credits scene in Skull Island will shed some light on this mystery.
