Watch Godzilla Wreak Havoc in New Trailer for Toho Film Godzilla: Resurgence

It’s been far too long since the legendary Toho Pictures summoned Godzilla onto the silver screen. The last time the production company brought forth the King of the Monsters for a big-screen appearance was in 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars.

Now, the studio plans to reboot its beloved franchise with Godzilla: Resurgence, due out this year on July 29. The film is directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuch, the two men most recently responsible for the Attack on Titan live-action film.

That’s the second trailer for Resurgence above for your viewing pleasure. It’s full of Godzilla crushing buildings, formal business meetings on Godzilla crushing buildings and later, military helicopters shooting at Godzilla while he’s crushing buildings.

The film is apparently an origin story that will see the titanic lizard emerge in modern Japan for the first time.

The scale of the monster appears to match the production, as well. According to Japan Today, Resurgence features the largest cast to appear in a Japanese movie, with 328 actors.

Sadly, there’s so far been no mention about a western release. Until then, rest assured that, with Rogue One done, Gareth Edwards is set to return to his monster in 2019.
