2019 Golden Globes Nominations Revealed: Vice, The Assassination of Gianni Versace Lead the Way

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association unveiled the 2019 Golden Globes nominations on Thursday morning.

Vice dominated the film categories with six nominations, followed closely by The Favourite, Green Book and A Star Is Born, all tied for second with five nominations each. In TV, The Assassination of Gianni Versace led the way with four nods, followed by The Americans, Barry, Sharp Objects, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Homecoming and others, all with three.

A few notable omissions in film were First Reformed and Widows, both of which were shut out altogether, as well as Lee Chang-dong’s Burning, the South Korean Oscar submission, and Poland’s Cold War in the foreign film category. On the TV side, FX’s Atlanta was surprisingly left out of the running for best musical or comedy series, while Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale missed out on a nomination for best drama series.

Regina King picked up nominations in both film and TV categories for her work in If Beale Street Could Talk and Netflix’s Seven Seconds, respectively, while one of next year’s hosts, Sandra Oh, picked up a nomination of her own for Killing Eve. FX’s The Americans picked up a Best Drama nomination for the first time in its final season, while Maniac and This Is Us were other major TV shutouts.
