Golden Globes Winners 2020: The Complete List
When TV and film come together, anything can happen. Let's party.
Image courtesy of NetflixThe Golden Globes are the Oscars’ goofy cousin, the Emmys’ deranged neighbor. They’re the one time a year when TV stars and movie stars brush shoulders and clink glasses, and it’s almost always chaos. It makes for great television, but it doesn’t always yield results critics and fans want. In any case, this year’s telecast happened tonight (Sunday, Jan. 5) at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC, and the king of celebrity roasts Ricky Gervais hosted the show for the sixth time. Alas, when will awards show hosting gigs become cool again? Not soon enough.
Personalities aside, Marriage Story leads the film categories with six nominations. The Irishman follows with five. Netflix’s The Crown, Unbelievable and HBO’s Chernobyl lead the television categories with four nominations each. Streaming newcomer Apple TV wiggled its way into the mix, landing three nominations by way of The Morning Show. The critically-tanking Cats was not nominated for Best Motional Picture Musical or Comedy, but it does have a best song nomination. The Golden Globes are occasionally a good indicator of what will happen at the Oscars (which this year take place about a month afterwards, on Feb. 9), but there’s one Oscar favorite that won’t get much love at the Globes: Little Women. Greta Gerwig’s adaption wasn’t nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama, and Gerwig was snubbed from the all-male director category (That means The Farewell’s Lulu Wang and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’s Marielle Heller were left out, too). Disgruntled sigh.
