Fleabag Star Phoebe Waller-Bridge Might Join Han Solo Spinoff Film

According to Variety, the Han Solo spinoff might be getting another new character by way of Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She is reportedly in early talks to join the cast in a “CGI-driven performance,” which is a pretty exciting announcement. Waller-Bridge, if she gets the part, will be joining an ensemble cast featuring Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Donald Glover. She’ll be joining the ranks of Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian, depending on what the film does with Solo’s relationships.

When it comes to the latest motion-capture performances in the Star Wars saga, we’ve had Alan Tudyk as K-2SO in Rogue One, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata and Andy Serkis’ Supreme Leader Snoke as the major players. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to what kind of character she’d be playing, and we’re not just limited to an alien or droid. It could really be anything—a cloud, shade of blue, or Jar-Jar’s descendant. But a droid or an alien are most likely, given Lucasfilm’s track record of late.

Waller-Bridge is most well-known for being the creator and star of Amazon’s original series Fleabag, for which she was nominated for a Critics Choice TV Award. She is also in the process of writing a spy thriller series for BBC America.

The as-of-yet-untitled Han Solo spinoff is slated for a May 25, 2018 release, with Christopher Miller and Phil Lord serving as directors.
