Hayao Miyazaki Documentary Never-Ending Man to Debut in U.S. Theaters this December
The documentary follows the acclaimed animator and Studio Ghibli creator during the making of his latest

Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki, the forthcoming documentary about the famed animation mastermind behind Studio Ghibli, is set to debut in more than 500 U.S. theaters on Dec. 13.
The film follows Miyazaki as he comes out of retirement and grapples with CGI for the first time during the production of his most recent work, the short film Boro the Caterpillar. Miyazaki had previously announced his retirement in 2013, following the release of his film The Wind Rises. But the 72-year-old filmmaker just can’t stay away—he came back to produce Boro, and is currently working on a feature-length film How Will You Live?, due out in 2020.
Never-Ending Man will follow Miyazaki through the production process for Boro the Caterpillar, but will also focus on the man’s life and legacy. Miyazaki started the animation house Studio Ghibli in 1985, and over the years has produced many acclaimed works, including classics like Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and the Academy-Award-winning My Neighbor Totoro. All of these features were hand-drawn, but with his most recent works, Miyazaki has made the switch to CGI animation.
