Bill Skarsgård Is Tortured by a Malevolent SUV in First Trailer for Locked

In the world of thriller movies, concepts don’t come any higher than “trapped inside an SUV,” which just so happens to be the premise for the newly revealed Locked from director David Yarovesky. As in, this is a film about a guy who gets locked inside a futuristic luxury SUV, where he’s psychologically tortured and broken down by a mastermind antagonist voiced by none other than Anthony Hopkins. Or as the official synopsis puts it:

From producer Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell) comes a relentless horror-thriller where luxury becomes deadly. When Eddie (Bill Skarsgård) breaks into a luxury SUV, he steps into a deadly trap set by William (Anthony Hopkins), a self-proclaimed vigilante delivering his own brand of twisted justice. With no means of escape, Eddie must fight to survive in a ride where escape is an illusion, survival is a nightmare, and justice shifts into high gear.

Somehow, we’re not surprised that it’s Raimi who gets called out on this particular premise, rather than Yarovesky, whose only other feature film directorial credit was 2019’s “What if Superman was evil as a kid?” horror yarn Brightburn. As for the obvious question of “how bad could be it be, being locked inside a plush, roomy sports utility wagon?”, your mileage may vary. We hear Hopkins’ character doing such monstrous things as cranking up the A/C in his quest to torture Skarsgård, before eventually putting the car into drive remotely to seemingly run down some pedestrians, presumably planning that the one other guy in the car will be blamed. Naturally, we assume that Skarsgård will manage to turn the tables at some point on his Locked antagonist, although it’s really the perfect role for an 87-year-old Anthony Hopkins at this point in his career, collecting a payday in exchange for largely being a disembodied voice.

Locked is a remake of 2019 Argentinean thriller 4×4, and is now set to rev its way into theaters on March 21, 2025. You can check out the first trailer below.
