How To Train Your Dragon 3 Gets First Poster and Release Date

Universal has shared the first poster for the third How to Train Your Dragon movie, along with an official title and spring 2019 release date. The third movie, now officially titled How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, will mark the culmination of one of the most popular animated film franchises in movie history. How to Train Your Dragon 2 came out four years ago and fans have been patiently waiting for an end to the trilogy. Made-for-TV movies, an animated series and videogames have tided fans over in the interim, but now they do not have much longer to wait for the third and final film.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will be the darkest entry in the franchise, which is surprising, given how thematically dense and mature the other two movies are. In this forthcoming chapter, Hiccup and Toothless will finally face their destinies and come to terms with their true purposes—with and without each other. Hiccup, alongside Astrid, is now the chief ruler of the village of Berk, while Toothless is the leader of his own dragon-kind. Their lives ascend into greatness but something dark, evil even, lurks in their shadows and they must face their hardest challenge yet. Strife will test their relationship with one another, as will the discovery of a female Night Fury.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World stars Jay Baruchel (This is the End), America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Cate Blanchett, Craig Ferguson (This is the End) and Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones). The film is written and directed, once again, by Dean DeBlois and is based on the books by Cressida Cowell.
