“I have always admired Jessica Chastain’s work,” Newton said. “So when I wrote Eve, an intelligent, strong, and incredibly capable character, she was my immediate first choice to bring her to life. I am humbled and thrilled to be collaborating with Jessica and Voltage on the film.”
Voltage Pictures and Chastain’s production company Freckle Films are teaming up for this project. Nicolas Chartier and Dominic Rustam will represent Voltage and will produce alongside Chastain, her Freckle Films partner Kelly Carmichael and Newton. Voltage’s Jonathan Deckter will serve as executive producer with Babacar Diene as co-producer. Eve will also be fully financed by Voltage.
Chartier shared equal enthusiasm for Newton and Chastain’s contributions, saying Newton “wrote a wonderful new character in Eve,” and that “Jessica Chastain will once again deliver an amazing performance.”
In a joint statement, Chastain and Carmichael shared their own excitement to work with Newton: “Matthew [Newton] is wonderfully adept at crafting complex and relatable characters. We’ve been fans of his work and are so thrilled to be partnering with him and Voltage on Eve,” they said.
Chastain has several other projects currently in the works, including the spy thriller 355, which features an all-star female cast and is being produced by Freckle Films. Her most immediate forthcoming films are It: Chapter Two, shooting now, in which Chastain will portray an adult Beverly Marsh, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. With the latter film’s recently rescheduled released date, both are anticipated to come out in 2019.
