Jimmy Kimmel Will Host the 2017 Academy Awards

Movies News JImmy Kimmel

After a long search for a host, The Academy has finally decided that late night’s Jimmy Kimmel will host their 2017 ceremony, Variety reports. Kimmel has hosted several awards shows in the past, including the 2012 and 2016 Emmy Awards. He also hosted the ESPYs in 2007, and has hosted the American Music Awards five times.

Kimmel’s previous awards appearances have been characterized by a light snark. He’s never venomous, but his jokes suggest that somewhere inside, he’s rolling his eyes. Although he’s not the most high-profile choice for the job, he may turn out to be well-suited for it. The real shocker here is that James Corden wasn’t the pick—the guy’s been staging an awards show takeover.

This will be Kimmel’s first time hosting the Oscars. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Feb. 26, 2017. The show will be produced by Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd.
