Watch the First Trailer for John Krasinski-Directed Dramedy The Hollars

John Krasinski has released a trailer for his family drama film, The Hollars, via Twitter.

The project first surfaced in 2014, when Krasinski and scriptwriter James C. Sprouse (New York, I Love You) pitched the film to investors at the Cannes Festival. The Hollars tells the story of its namesake, the Hollar family of small-town America, as they cope with their mother’s (Margo Martindale) brain surgery. It focuses on John Hollar (Krasinski) who returns home to New York for the occasion to be bombarded with his past, including an eager (married) ex-girlfriend (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), all while his current girlfriend (Anna Kendrick) is on the verge of giving birth to their first child.

The trailer, which features the upbeat “Lost In My Mind” from The Head and The Heart, promises a heartfelt story filled with soft jokes. It shows off its impressive cast, which also includes Sharlto Copley, Charlie Day, Richard Jenkins, Mary Kay Place, Josh Groban and Randall Park, who any Office fan will recognize as Asian Jim.

The Hollars premiered at Sundance this year, and also appeared at the Nantucket, Boston Independent and L.A. film festivals. The movie marks Krasinski’s second directorial effort, the first being 2009’s mildly well-received Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, which he adapted from a story by David Foster Wallace. The Hollars comes to theaters on Aug. 26. Watch the trailer above.
