Johnny Depp’s Notorious B.I.G. Movie Pulled One Month From Release Date

The year keeps rolling along, and things just get worse and worse for Johnny Depp. The once-revered actor is now surrounded by a string of controversies and lawsuits that have emerged from assault and misconduct claims raised by those in both his personal and professional lives.

Now, just one month after Rolling Stone published a scathing article detailing Depp’s financial and personal distress, his film about the murder of Notorious B.I.G has been pulled, according to THR. City of Lies was slated to premiere on Sept. 7 but is now undated, a spokesperson for Global Road Entertainment announced.

The film is based on a book written by Randall Sullivan titled LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal. Depp plays the role of LAPD detective Russell Poole, who investigated the rapper’s murder.

The decision to pull the film comes after Gregg Rocky Brooks, a former location manager, sued Depp, alleging that the actor punched him in the ribs and verbally assaulted him during a drunken tirade. The crew member also claimed that he was fired from City of Lies after refusing to sign a non-disclosure agreement that would’ve prevented him from suing Depp.

It’s far from the only legal battle Depp has become involved in recently. Two former bodyguards have sued the actor for improper payment and creating “toxic” environments. In July, he settled a multi-million dollar lawsuit with his former business managers for “gross misconduct.”

Despite the complete shitshow that is Depp at this moment, Warner Bros. is still all systems go on Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald; Depp plays the titular villain. The film is set to hit theaters on Nov. 16, despite fans of the series criticizing the move to cast Depp after his ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of physical and verbal abuse. He has denied the allegations.

Revisit the City of Lies trailer here. It’s likely to be the only footage we see for a while.
