Taika Waititi Shares First Photo of Himself as Hitler in Jojo Rabbit
Weird doesn't even begin to describe it
Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/GettyTaika Waititi has shared the first image of his portrayal of Hitler, via Instagram, in his forthcoming film Jojo Rabbit. It is set to be a dark comedy written, directed by and co-starring Mr. Waititi, for which he is adapting Christine Leunens’ book Caging Skies. The film also stars Roman Griffin, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson and Thomasin McKenzie.
The image in question is quite odd, and Waititi’s portrayal of the Nazi Party’s leader is sure to be as damning of the man and what he did as it is funny in the way Waititi plays him. Waititi’s portrayal of Hitler is as fictional in the film as it is in real life, since Jojo Rabbit is a boy living in Nazi Germany during the Second World War and his only means of escapism is found through his imaginary friend—Waititi’s Hitler.
Principal production started on Jojo Rabbit in late May. The film is set to be released sometime in 2019 via Fox Searchlight Pictures.
