Click Your Heels Together for Renée Zellweger as Judy Garland in First Trailer for Judy

The new teaser trailer for the Judy Garland biopic Judy starring Renée Zellweger has been released.

The film recounts Garland’s life during her five-week sold-out residency at London’s The Talk of the Town (currently known as the Hippodrome) in 1968 before dying of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 47.

Director Rupert Goold said of his sequin-studded adaptation of Peter Quilter’s musical End of the Rainbow:

I had always wanted to make a film that explores great performance and its cost. The most fertile ground for such exploration seemed to be at the end of a lifetime of performance. For over 40 years Judy Garland had laughed and loved and entertained no matter what life threw at her, and her public adored her for it. But she paid a price in a childhood lost to Hollywood, an emotional exhaustion and a yearning for a “normal” life beyond the rainbow. It is a powerful and moving story that I hope will inspire new audiences to discover Judy Garland’s joyous legacy.

Zellweger stars alongside Finn Wittrock as Garland’s fifth husband Mickey Deans, Rufus Sewell as third husband Sid Luft, Michael Gambon as manager Bernard Delfont, Bella Ramsey as daughter Lorna Luft and Gemma-Leah Devereux as her other daughter, Liza Minnelli.

See Judy in theaters on Sept. 27. Until then, follow the yellow brick road to the new teaser below.
