Kurt Russell Kept Calling Star Lord “Star Wars” While Shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

While Kurt Russell did an excellent job playing Star Lord’s galaxy-eating dad, Ego, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. For whatever reason, Russell just couldn’t wrap his head around the name “Star Lord,” and continually referred to Chris Pratt’s character as “Star Wars,” according to the man himself on the film’s Blu-Ray extras.

During one ill-fated take, Russell says, “Well, even where I reside out past the edge of what’s known, we’ve heard tales about the man they call Star Wars.” Recognizing his error, Russell then jokingly tells the crew, “We could be in trouble.”

Russell tried again, only to repeat the mistake, “We’ve heard tell of the man they call Star Wars. Ugh. Yes, Star Wars. He’s all of Star Wars. We’ve heard of the movie Star Wars.”

Director James Gunn thought it was pretty funny, and he confirmed the blunder for the wider internet.

What makes it all the funnier is the fact that once upon a time, on a sound stage far, far away, Russell actually auditioned for the role of galaxy’s smarmiest scoundrel.
