Bob Odenkirk Joins Cast of Greta Gerwig’s Little Women Remake

The cast of Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming Little Women remake gets even more impressive today, as Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk is now set to join the cast of Gerwig’s Lady Bird follow-up, per Deadline. Odenkirk joins a stacked cast including Lady Bird’s Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet, plus Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Emma Watson (previously Stone), Florence Pugh, Sharp Objects’ Eliza Scanlen, Grantchester’s James Norton, and Louis Garrel.

Lady Bird was a (near-unimpeachable) indie hit, setting records as A24’s highest-grossing release to date and, at least for a while, as Rotten Tomatoes’ best-reviewed movie of all time, although Gerwig has a number of new challenges for her Little Women remake, which she will write and direct: She is working with a new studio, Sony’s Columbia Pictures, and is moving from her Sacramento hometown of Lady Bird to rural Massachusetts, where Little Women is set, to adapt a well-worn tale that has already been adapted multiple times to film.

The project should also be a solid dramatic showcase for Mr. Show alum Odenkirk, who has shined as Saul Goodman throughout the acclaimed runs of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul alike, and who is also set to play New York Times journalist David Carr in a forthcoming AMC miniseries.

Based on the classic Louisa May Alcott novel, Gerwig’s Little Women remake is being produced for Sony Pictures. Amy Pascal is producing, alongside Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord, and with Andrea Giannetti overseeing for Sony’s label Columbia Pictures.

We’re expecting Gerwig’s Little Women remake from Columbia Pictures early next year.
