Exclusive: Listen to Madeline’s Madeline Opening Track “Hey Na Na”

You can now hear “Hey Na Na,” the opening song from Madeline’s Madeline, exclusively here at Paste.

Built around handclaps, and a haunting chant written and performed by the cast, “Hey Na Na” scores the film’s expressionistic opening scene before screeching to a halt, in line with the film’s disorienting overall approach.

Madeline’s Madeline explores the battle between three women: Madeline (newcomer Helena Howard), newly cast by a prestigious physical theater troupe, her ambitious director Evangeline (Molly Parker) and her mother Regina (Miranda July), with whom she has a troubled history.

The third feature from indie writer-director Josephine Decker, Madeline’s Madeline premiered at Sundance in January, where it was acquired by Oscilloscope Laboratories, who released the film on Aug. 10. The drama has been met with widespread critical acclaim, earning an impressive 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
