Michael Fassbender is a Sinister Machiavelli in Steve Jobs Trailer

Aaron Sorkin writes, Danny Boyle directs, Michael Fassbender stars—sounds fairly incredible, right? The full trailer above, for the new biopic Steve Jobs, about the late Apple founder, will do nothing to dissuade that first impression. The one surprise, though, is the tone. If anybody was expecting a hagiography, they should look elsewhere—this is Jobs unvarnished, a bit sinister, a bit Machiavellian. Fassbender, with a slightly higher pitch to his voice, looks and sounds absolutely perfect for the role.

Among other themes, we get a taste of Jobs’ conflicts with his co-founder Steve Wozniak (Seth Rogen) and former Apple CEO John Sculley (Jeff Daniels), along with his refusal to recognize his own daughter. I think it’s fair to say that this will be better than that Ashton Kutcher…”thing”…that happened two years ago. Steve Jobs will be released October 9, and boring title aside, it already looks like an Oscar contender—especially for Fassbender.
