One Battle After Another conquers the BAFTAs
The film picked up six wins, including one for Sean Penn's performance.

The BAFTAs were held yesterday in the United Kingdom, and while they’ve already attracted quite a bit of attention for what did and didn’t make it into the telecast, they also handed out some awards. The big winner was more or less anticipated—One Battle After Another took home six awards—even if the particulars were not. Jessie Buckley, often considered the frontrunner for Best Actress for the upcoming Oscars, did take home that trophy yesterday. But other recent winners like Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Timothée Chalamet were passed over.
Chalamet lost Best Leading Actor to Robert Aramayo of I Swear, which follows Tourette’s activist John Davidson and hasn’t yet been released in the United States. Taylor, who won the Golden Globe and has a pending nomination at the Actor Awards, was beat out by Sinners‘ Wunmi Mosaku, also nominated for the Academy Award. Likewise, del Toro lost to his One Battle co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Sean Penn. Oscar voting for members of the Academy opens on Thursday, but given that this is a different awards body, it’s hard to say how much this might impact the Oscars.
Overall, Sinners and Frankenstein both won two awards. Marty Supreme set a record, per Variety, for the most BAFTA losses in history. You can read the whole list of winners below.
