Pacific Rim 2 Set for 2017 Release
We reported earlier in the month that Guillermo del Toro was in the process of writing the Pacific Rim 2 script. On Thursday, del Toro announced that Legendary Pictures and Universal have scheduled the film to open on April 7, 2017.
“The characters I love will return,” del Toro told BuzzFeed. “Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”
The first film earned $411 million worldwide, but with the recent success of Godzilla and the return of Transformers to the silver screen, it is reassuring that audiences are not tired of watching giant robots and monsters.
