Quentin Tarantino Says He May Make More than 10 Films, Names Best Character He’s Ever Written

Quentin Tarantino has long said that once he’s made ten films, that’s it. Why? To preserve his pristine image because according to him, filmmaking does not get better with age.

That means he has two films left to write and direct. He’s been married to his work for decades and has even sworn off marriage and children so he can focus on his ten films.

On Friday at the Jerusalem Film Festival, though, Tarantino qualified his statement by saying he may just come out of retirement at 75 if he decides that he has “another story to do,” per Collider.

Before a 35mm screening of Pulp Fiction at the festival, Tarantino called Hans Landa of Inglorious Basterds, played by Christoph Waltz, the best character he’s ever written.

“Landa is the best character I’ve ever written and maybe the best I ever will write,” the director said. “I didn’t realize [when I was first writing him] that he was a linguistic genius. He’s probably one of the only Nazis in history who could speak perfect Yiddish.”

In fact, Tarantino also revealed that he almost pulled the plug on Inglorious Basterds before it even began because he couldn’t find an actor who could speak multiple languages, as the part called for. But once Waltz auditioned, Tarantino knew he was the one. And the Oscar committee thought so, too, because Waltz won Best Supporting Actor for his role as “The Jew Hunter.”

Tarantino also received a lifetime achievement award at the film festival.
