Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Adaptation Casts Zoe Colletti (Updated)
Photo by Nicholas Hunt/GettyIt’s time to bring back the flashlight underneath the covers, as key new details have emerged about the Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s childhood classic Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark anthology series.
Zoe Colletti, who appeared in the 2014 Annie remake and will appear in the forthcoming Paul Dano-directed Wildlife, has been cast as the first member of the film’s core ensemble. Collider was first to report the casting.
Per CBS Films, the film’s synopsis is as follows:
Inspired by one of the most terrifying book series of all time, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark follows a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding a wave of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small town.
Oscar winner del Toro was initially set to direct the project, but handed off duties to André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), and will instead serve as producer. A well-established fan of genre fare, this is a passion project for del Toro, who even owns some of Scary Stories illustrator Stephen Gammell’s original illustrations.
Del Toro will produce alongside Sean Daniel, Elizabeth Grave and J. Miles Dale. He also co-wrote the script with The Lego Movie’s Kevin and Dan Hageman, along with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan.
Del Toro tweeted on Tuesday that production starts in a few days in Toronto, though there is no word yet on a release date.
