Photo by Carlos Alvarez/GettyThe Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has set a new ensemble to join previously announced core cast member Zoe Colletti, as filming starts on the project this week in Toronto.
Per the film’s distributor CBS Films, Michael Garza (Wayward Pines, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I), Austin Abrams (Brad’s Status, The Americans), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight, Kidding) and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make it Pop, Wet Bum) have joined the Scary Stories cast.
“We spent months searching for and assembling the perfect group of actors to help us realize the most terrifying adaptation that we could conceive,” said director André Øvredal in a statement.
“I am honored to support Andre’s vision and, with our partners, to bring the incredible world of Scary Stories to the screen,” added del Toro.
Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) will direct the film in place of del Toro, who stepped down to serve as producer. Based on the popular children’s horror book series written by Alvin Schwartz, the forthcoming adaptation will “a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding a wave of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small town.”
With these details in place, we can expect to see a lot of this ensemble cast in the forthcoming project, though there is no word yet on a release date.
