Disney’s Sister Act 3 Finds its Writers
Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/GettyInsecure executive producer Regina Hicks and Star showrunner Karin Gist have been tapped to write Sister Act 3 for the forthcoming Disney+ streaming service, per Variety.
Disney’s Touchstone Pictures distributed the original 1992 film and its hit 1993 sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and the entertainment giant is now developing the third installment for its forthcoming Disney+ streaming service. The streamer’s ambitious live-action film slate also includes the Willem Dafoe-starring Togo, a Tessa Thompson- and Chris Hemsworth-starring remake of the animated classic Lady and the Tramp, and Nicole, a female-centric Santa movie starring Anna Kendrick.
Sister Act 3 plot details are being kept under wraps, although the original starred Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier, a Reno lounge singer who goes into witness protection as a nun after witnessing her mobster boyfriend commit a murder. While original star Goldberg has said that she would return to make a cameo in Sister Act 3, the new cast for the sequel has yet to be set.
Hicks and Gist have previously worked as writing partners on multiple projects, include the two Camp Rock movies for Disney Channel.
Disney+ is currently slated to launch in late 2019. Catch up on everything we know about the streaming service here.
