Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX, the momentous final film in the trilogy of trilogies that make up the franchise’s central Skywalker saga, BlacKkKlansman ’s Topher Grace, of all people, has served up a wonderful treat for Star Wars fans. Star Wars: Always, which Grace and his editing partner Jeff Yorkes created and shared via their film editorial side project Lou’s Cafe, combines footage from all 10 main Star Wars films, including both Star Wars Story standalones, Rogue One and Solo, into one thrilling, five-minute “mega-trailer.”
“10 movies. 2 nerds. 1 weekend (when our wives were out of town),” Grace wrote on Twitter Tuesday. “Enjoy … ”
Grace and Yorkes do Star Wars many a favor in their edit, sidestepping the saga’s plotting flaws (and the bulk of the prequels) and emphasizing the through lines that have persisted from the late ‘70s through today. It’s one thing to know the Star Wars films well and recognize the ideas that have echoed through these stories, but it’s another to literally see some of those connections made before your eyes. It’s a moving appreciation of one of film’s most significant works of science fiction and fantasy, just about guaranteed to give viewers goosebumps.
