New on Starz: All the Movies and TV Coming in April

It’s that time of the mid-month again, when streaming services and pay-cable channels alike look ahead to the next month’s incoming content, and when your friends at Paste pass that invaluable information along to you. Starz subscribers, take heed: You have some eye-catching film and television titles to look forward to in April.

Starz’s movie offerings are particularly appealing, so we’ll start there, with one of the slate’s foremost standouts: Oscar-nominated sci-fi dramedy The Truman Show (April 1), starring Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank, a naive everyman who discovers that he’s the star of a lifelong reality show. Also arriving alongside that film on the first of April are Steve Martin-starring comedy The Jerk, Oscar-winning Tom Cruise/Dustin Hoffman drama Rain Man, 2010 sci-fi follow-up Tron: Legacy, Kathy Bates-starring 1991 drama Fried Green Tomatoes and Colin Farrell-led thriller Phone Booth, to name a few. Following later in the month are Terry Gilliam’s Brazil (April 5), Chevy Chase comedies Fletch and Fletch Lives (April 12), Patrick Swayze-starring 1984 actioner Red Dawn (April 12), 2018 action sequel The Equalizer 2 (April 13), Oscar-nominated Robert Zemeckis adventurer Romancing The Stone (April 19) and infamous 2013 box-office flop The Lone Ranger (April 30). And in case you’re looking for a double feature, there’s the pairing of 2017 documentary White Boy (April 8) and 2018 crime-drama White Boy Rick (April 27), both of which draw from the insane true story of 17-year-old Richard Wershe, Jr., who allegedly ran a vicious, sophisticated underground cocaine operation throughout inner-city Detroit, was arrested as a teen and has been imprisoned ever since.

As for April TV additions, Starz’s main attractions are the ongoing second and first seasons of its original shows American Gods and Now Apocalypse, respectively. The former is an epic fantasy series based on Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel of the same name, starring Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, an ex-con hired as the bodyguard for Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), who finds himself in the middle of a war between the Old Gods and the New; the latter is a coming-of-age comedy centering on Ulysses (Avan Jogia) and his friends Carly (Kelli Berglund), Ford (Beau Mirchoff) and Severine (Roxane Mesquida) as they pursue love, sex and fame amid the surreal and bewildering city of Los Angeles. Both shows air the fifth episodes of their respective seasons Sunday, April 7, with subsequent new episodes airing weekly throughout the month. Elsewhere in TV, Starz adds episodes of Laramie (April 1, Episodes 1-124), Galaxy Angel (April 12, Episode 401), Polvo Carnavalero (April 15, Episodes 157-174), The Big Valley (April 26, Episodes 301-326), Miami Vice (April 26, Episodes 515-522) and Voltron (April 26, Episodes 201-320).

Don’t overlook what’s leaving Starz, either: The clock is ticking on 2017 sci-fi thriller Life (April 4), infamous Best Picture winner Crash (April 5), Trainspotting sequel T2 Trainspotting (April 11), Sacha Baron Cohen’s modern-day mockumentary classic Borat (April 30), James Mangold Oscar winner Girl, Interrupted (April 30), Wes Craven’s iconic Scream (April 30), Terry Gilliam’s Oscar-nominated Twelve Monkeys (April 30) and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand (April 30), among others, so catch what you want to while you can.
