New on Starz: All the Movies and TV Coming in February

With a new page of the calendar comes an all-new set of opportunities for you streamers to spree-watch all of your leisure time away. If you’re planning on seeing Starz in February, we’ve got the rundown on all the new movies and TV you should prioritize, as well as everything you’ll need to hurry up and see before it leaves the channel’s streaming service. Read us now and thank us later.

Starz’s feature film slate is the main attraction next month, with a handful of big-time crowd-pleasers on the way. Though most of those are debuting on the first of the month—more on that in a moment—the biggest addition of the bunch comes on Feb. 10: Marvel Cinematic Universe mega-hit Spider-Man: Homecoming. Jon Watts’ excellent action-comedy served as the feature-length introduction to Tom Holland’s charismatic and youthful take on Spider-Man, overcoming Spider-Man reboot fatigue to become something truly special, and delighting critics and audiences alike. Paste’s Jim Vorel wrote in his review of the film, “Briskly paced and charming to a fault, it’s a Spider-Man movie that fully embraces both its source material and the perils of 21st-century teenage life.” As aforementioned, before Homecoming hits Starz, Feb. 1 brings a significant crop of worthwhile films, including Michel Gondry’s Dave Chappelle-starring comedy/music doc Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, 1978 sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the Heath Ledger-led medieval adventure A Knight’s Tale, Peter Jackson’s game-changing fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, John Woo-directed spy sequel Mission: Impossible II and Terry Gilliam’s 1995 sci-fi gem Twelve Monkeys, to name only a select few. And as far as Starz originals go, the channel will exclusively premiere feature-length documentary The Pulitzer at 100 on Feb. 12. Here’s the doc’s official synopsis:

The Pulitzer at 100 explores the importance of words and language in a free democracy. Behind the honors are extraordinary people. Their stories are riveting: power, immigration, race and identity are all central themes. The Pulitzer celebrates storytelling at its best, and this film reveals the courage and struggles to get at truth. Directed by Oscar- and Emmy-winning director Kirk Simon and told through the riveting stories of the artists that have won the prestigious prize, with readings by Helen Mirren, Liev Schreiber, Natalie Portman, John Lithgow, Yara Shahidi and others.

Starz’s list of incoming television additions boils down to two high-profile original series, one that’s just building a head of steam and another that’s already a fan favorite. The former is Counterpart, the J.K. Simmons-starring thriller that Paste contributor Whitney Friedlander describes as “a tale of espionage, science fiction, a government coverup and a manhunt for an assassin all rolled into one impeccably thorough thought experiment on inevitability and fate.” The show from The Jungle Book writer Justin Marks made its debut earlier this month, and will air its third, fourth, fifth and sixth episodes on Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25, respectively. Also airing on Feb. 25 is the season three premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead, a popular adaptation of Sam Raimi’s iconic horror-comedy franchise, starring Bruce Campbell as everyone’s favorite chainsaw-handed hero, Ash. The show’s third season kicks off at 9 p.m. EST on the 25th, and will be available to stream or download on the Starz app starting at 12:01 a.m. EST that night. Watch a trailer for the return of Ash vs Evil Dead below.

Sadly, there’s quite a lot leaving Starz in February, including a veritable slew of movies that you simply must see. On the first of the month, the app loses Adam McKay’s incredibly quotable Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy Step Brothers, followed the next day by David Fincher’s iconic Chuck Palahniuk adaptation Fight Club. Arguably the biggest loss of the month falls on Feb. 7, as J.J. Abrams’ franchise-reinvigorating Star Wars: The Force Awakens departs Starz. And a number of notable titles wait until Feb. 28 to take their leave, including a couple of early-2000s horror juggernauts in The Grudge and Hostel (plus 2007’s Hostel: Part II), Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning family film Hugo, the original Robin Williams-starring Jumanji, Che Guevara biopic The Motorcycle Diaries and indie music-centric rom-com Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist.
