New on Starz: All the Movies and TV Coming in June

Now that Game of Thrones’ watch has officially ended, it’s probably time for you to find something new to watch—after you’re finally over that post-series funk, of course. Although it may prove difficult to fill the GOT-sized hole in your heart, Starz is offering some pretty great TV and movie options coming up in June that may just do the trick.
Perhaps one of the more exciting films on Starz’s June slate is Apollo 13 (available June 1), the 1995 classic film based on the aborted 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission. The American space docudrama famously boasted a star-studded cast, including the likes of Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Gary Sinise, Bill Paxton, and Ed Harris. If you still haven’t seen it (which you really should) and the film doesn’t sound familiar to you, maybe the words “Houston, we have a problem,” ring a bell? Right up there with Apollo 13 is the Coen brothers classic Paste recently named the best comedy of all time: Raising Arizona (June 1), starring Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter as an odd couple who go to extreme lengths to add a child to their family.
Also joining the mix in the movie lineup are Keanu Reeve’s and Alex Winter’s wacky comedy Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (June 1), semi-biographical medical drama Patch Adams (June 14) starring the late, great Robin Williams, classic Clint Eastwood Western films A Fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More (both available June 15), and alien sci-fi mystery The X-Files.
The list of offerings is lighter on the TV side of things for June, with the exception of the premiere of new series The Rook (June 30) starring Emma Greenwell (Shameless), Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Olivia Munn (The Newsroom) and James D’Arcy (Agent Carter), among others. In a press release, Starz describes The Rook as “a supernatural spy thriller [that] tells the story of Myfanwy Thomas, a woman who wakes up in the rain beside London’s Millennium Bridge with no memory of who she is and no way to explain the circle of latex-gloved dead bodies splayed around her. When Myfanwy discovers she is a high-ranking official in the Checquy, Britain’s last truly secret service for people with paranormal abilities, she will have to navigate the dangerous and complex world of the agency to uncover who wiped her memory—and why she is a target.”
Be sure not to miss what’s leaving Starz in June, as well. The list of departing entertainment includes Adam Sandler comedy The Wedding Singer (June 7), the 2006 spy film The Good Shepherd (June 15), unsettling horror film The Amityville Horror (June 30), the iconic murderous doll-centric slasher Child’s Play (June 30), the heartstring-tugging Will Smith drama The Pursuit of Happyness (June 30) and plenty more that you’ll want to indulge in before they’re gone.
