Betty Gabriel Joins New Blumhouse Sci-Fi Production, Stem
Image via Universal PicturesTHR has just reported that Betty Gabriel will be joining Logan Marshall-Green in the new Blumhouse Productions sci-fi film, Stem. Coming off of their very successful $40 million weekend with M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, the production company is putting Stem on the production fast track.
Gabriel will be playing the female lead in a film that THR reports is “set in a near-future when technology controls nearly all aspects of life and centers on a technophobe (Marshall-Green) who avenges his wife’s murder and his own paralysis-causing injury with the help of an experimental computer-chip implant called Stem.” Gabriel’s role is under wraps at the moment, but it’s safe to assume that more information will be shared fairly quickly. She’s quickly becoming a mainstay for Blumhouse, turning out a performance in last years Purge: Election Year and in the forthcoming Get Out, a new horror film from none other than comedy writer Jordan Peele.
Leigh Whannell, co-creator of the Saw and Insidious franchises, will write and direct Stem.
