Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s Me & Earl & the Dying Girl won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, which has only happened six times in the event’s history. The story of an awkward high school student becoming friends with a classmate suffering from leukemia has very clear elements of Wes Anderson’s style, right down to the color palettes and camera movements. Starring Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, Nick Offerman, and Ronald Cyler II, the film has garnered huge amounts of attention since its double at Sundance.
