The Dark Knight Returning to Select Imax Theaters for Tenth Anniversary

Christopher Nolan’s superhero classic The Dark Knight is returning to Imax theaters in honor of the film’s 10-year anniversary, THR reports.

Released July 18, 2008, The Dark Knight was the second of Nolan’s Batman trilogy and at $1.003 billion, his highest grossing. Heath Ledger starred opposite Christian Bale’s Batman as the Joker. When the movie was released after his death, Ledger became only the second actor to posthumously win an Oscar for his role, and out of respect for the Australian actor, Nolan never addressed his character in the third film.

Nolan shot scenes for the movie in Imax format, combining them with standard filming techniques to achieve a higher resolution product. The giant screen sequences were the first of their kind, and starting Aug. 24, audiences can watch the groundbreaking work again in select Imax theaters.

The Dark Knight will be re-released for one week in Los Angeles at the AMC Universal Citywalk Imax, in New York at the AMC Lincoln Square Imax, in San Francisco at the AMC Metreon Imax and in Toronto at the Ontario Place Cinesphere Imax. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 20.
