Watch The Emoji Movie‘s First Teaser, Contemplate the Inevitable Death of the Universe

Like the Battleship movie or that trilogy of sci-fi Tetris movies that they keep threatening us with, the very existence of The Emoji Movie begs the question, “Why?”
It seems Sony isn’t exactly sure of the answer either, as the first teaser features Steven Wright using his trademark deadpan as the “meh” emoji, who also can’t seem to muster any excitement for this movie. And then there’s a poop joke.
Just based on some early reactions to this teaser, The Emoji Movie is going to have an especially hard time justifying its existence, but T.J. Miller voices the movie’s lead, so it can’t be all bad. The Emoji Movie comes out on Aug. 4, 2017. You can watch the first teaser above.
