Ian McKellen Cons Helen Mirren in The Good Liar Trailer

Warner Bros. has released the trailer for Bill Condon’s forthcoming thriller The Good Liar, marking Sir Ian McKellen’s return to the forefront of the silver screen.

McKellen stars as a con artist who preys on an unassuming wealthy widow (Helen Mirren) after targeting her on an online dating website (could this be McKellen’s Talhotblond?). As the two grow closer, McKellen’s character develops genuine feelings for the widow, a mistake that leads to “the most dangerous tightrope walk of his life,” per the film’s synopsis.

The trailer isn’t necessarily forthcoming about what that “dangerous tightrope walk” entails, but whatever it is warrants McKellen to push an unsuspecting person off of a train platform and stumble down a hallway with a handgun.

The Good Liar is McKellen’s fourth collaboration with Gods and Monsters director Condon and most recent screen role since 2018’s All Is True. The film also stars Quantico’s Russell Tovey and Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter.

The Good Liar opens in theaters on Nov. 15. Check out the trailer below.
