Tommy Wiseau’s The Room Will Be Screened Nationwide for One Night
Images via Fathom EventsIt isn’t exactly earth-shattering news that cult classic The Room is being screened in theaters—fans of the “Citizen Kane of bad movies” can usually find the occasional midnight screening at their local theater. But with James Franco’s The Disaster Artist bringing Tommy Wiseau’s magnum opus into the public eye, Fathom Events is putting the Tennessee Williams-inspired (?) drama (?) film (?) in theaters around the country.
For the uninitiated, The Room stars Wiseau as Johnny, whose fiance Lisa tears him apart by engaging in an affair with his best friend Mark, played by Greg Sestero (Sestero being the author of the book that The Disaster Artist is based on). The screenings from Fathom, which will take place on Jan. 10, 2018, will feature a new trailer of a forthcoming film starring Wiseau and Sestero, titled Best F®iends.
“We’ve seen a tremendous response to The Room as a RiffTrax event,” said Fathom Events VP of Programming Kymberli Frueh in a statement. “With interest in the movie at a fever pitch, thanks to The Disaster Artist, we can’t wait to bring Wiseau’s creation back to the big screen to stand on its own unusual merits.”
Check out the Fathom Events website to see where The Room will screen near you—the event will take place in approximately 500 select theaters nationwide. The Disaster Artist is in theaters now—check out our review here.
