Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon Are in Over Their Heads in First Trailer for The Spy Who Dumped Me

“There’s no turning back for us.” Mila Kunis must face off against her ex-boyfriend’s (Justin Theroux) assassins. By the way, her ex-boyfriend is a spy and works for the CIA. Double bad news for Kunis, he shows up at her door and says, “Some bad people are after me; now they’re after you.” Okay, super, that’s totally fine. Thanks Justin. Now, Kunis steps into high gear and enlists her best friend, Morgan, (Kate McKinnon) to help her. The two are on the run from the same assassins chasing her ex and now a mysteriously charming British secret agent (Sam Heughan).

Mila Kunis is no stranger to comedy, having made her acting break on the Fox comedy series That 70s Show. Other comedies featuring Kunis include Friends with Benefits with Justin Timberlake, Extract with Jason Bateman, Date Night with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey, Ted with Mark Wahlberg and of course Bad Moms and A Bad Moms Christmas. On the other side of the spectrum, she also received a Golden Globe nomination for her dramatic performance for Black Swan.

Kate McKinnon, meanwhile, might be one of the funniest SNL cast members in recent history. She’s won two Emmys for the show and got her start performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade, Manhattan’s famous comedy improv troupe.

The trailer below feels very James Bond-like in tone, say if it were a comedy, and is accompanied by Michael Bublé’s rendition of “Feeling Good”. Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj and Ivanna Sakhno co-star in the film from director Susanna Fogel, who co-wrote it with David Iserson. Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins producing. Kunis and McKinnon look to be a practically perfect comedy duo in the trailer.

Catch Lionsgate’s female led comedy in wide release on August 3.
