Investigate a Repressed Past With Laura Dern in the Dark First Trailer for The Tale

We tell ourselves what we have to in order to survive. Documentarian and producer Jennifer Fox presents The Tale, a story recalling her own repressed memories of dealing with sexual abuse as a child. She kept this experience repressed for decades before uncovering the truth of something that had been so long lost.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Laura Dern (Rambling Rose, Wild) stars as Jennifer. Her performance was received spectacularly ,with us even naming her performance as one of the top 10 performances of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. The film was picked up by HBO and will premiere on May 26.

Dern is coming off an incredible year with her Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning performance as Renata Klein in Big Little Lies on top of starring in the latest Star Wars installment. She’s currently working on production of Big Little Lies season two and can be seen in the forthcoming Edward Zwick film Trial By Fire.

Elizabeth Debicki costars as Mrs. G, giving what Vulture calls the “Scariest Performance by a Man, Woman, Animal, Ghost, or Monster.” Jason Ritter (Kevin Probably Saves the World), Francis Conroy (Six Feet Under), and Academy Award winners Common (Selma) and Ellen Burstyn (Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore) also costar.
