Charlize Theron Struggles With Motherhood in New Tully TrailerImage via Kimberly French/Focus Features Movies News Tully
In the forthcoming Tully, Academy Award winner Charlize Theron plays Marlo, a mother of three children, including a newborn. Motherhood is not all it’s cracked up to be, an exhausted Marlo finds. At the suggestion of her brother (Mark Duplass), she hires a night nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis) in order to give herself something of a break. Although hesitant at first, Marlo forms a tight bond with the surprising and challenging, yet thoughtful young night nanny.
Tully, which has already garnered a very positive critical response, is directed by Academy Award nominee Jason Reitman of Juno, Up in the Air and Young Adult. Academy Award winner Diablo Cody, also of Juno and Young Adult, penned the screenplay for this comical tale of motherhood. This is the third collaboration between Reitman and Cody, and their second with Theron. The film is produced by Theron’s Denver and Delilah Productions, and Bron Studios, with Focus Features distributing. Bron Studios is also producing Reitman’s next film, The Frontrunner, about American senator Gary Hart’s 1988 scandalous presidential campaign.
Theron won an Academy Award for Best Actress for the 2003 drama Monster, in which she played real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Davis is known for her role in the AMC series Halt and Catch Fire, and she also appeared in the Emmy-winning episode of Black Mirror titled “San Junipero,” as well as in Denis Villeneuve’s Oscar-winning sci-fi epic Blade Runner 2049.
Tully will arrive in theaters on April 20. You can watch the new trailer below and revisit its previous teaser trailer here.
