Venom Can See Into Your Soul in Film’s First Poster

Venom is coming, and the Tom Hardy-starring film’s chilling first poster, included below, is just an early sample from a hype cycle that’s about to be kicked up into a higher gear.

The poster is simple, yet effective, dominated by a pitch black disturbed only by a disturbing sight, indeed: the eyes of Venom himself. Look into the abyss, and the abyss looks into you.

We recently got our first look at Hardy as Eddie Brock, but aside from that, glimpses of the film have been all too hard to come by. Hopefully, that’s all going to change tomorrow—the official Venom Twitter account, while sharing the film’s poster on Wednesday, simply captioned the image, “Tomorrow.” It’s like “Soon,” only more specific. What could that herald but a trailer?

Sony’s Venom synopsis cuts right to the chase: “One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.” The film also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Jenny Slate. Ruben Fleischer directed from a script from Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (of the newly resurgent Jumanji franchise), and Kelly Marcel and Will Beall.

Venom takes over theaters on Oct. 5. See the film’s uncropped poster below, and check back with Paste tomorrow to see what else Venom has in store.
