Watch the Creepy First Teaser for Zach Cregger’s Barbarian Follow-Up, Weapons

Given the critical acclaim for director (and former sketch comedy star) Zach Cregger’s feature debut Barbarian back in 2022, anticipation was always going to be high for his sophomore feature. That anticipation will only become more ardent after this first tiny glimpse at the vibes of Weapons, his cryptically titled second horror film, which is scheduled for an Aug. 8, 2025 release via Warner Bros. You can see the first teaser embedded below.

Weapons stars Josh Brolin, with a premise that to date has only been listed as “The film revolves around multi-related plots marked by the disappearance of school kids in the middle of the night.” Judging from the voiceover in this first footage, however, we’re assuming that Brolin is some kind of detective or investigator who is working the case–it sounds like he’s meeting with one of the parents of the missing children to compare notes.

In a move that evokes the marketing campaigns of films like The Blair Witch Project or Cloverfield, the film has also launched with a kayfabe website about the disappearances, www.maybrookmissing.com. It notes that all the children left their homes at the same time in the middle of the night–watching the footage below, it’s particularly creepy how they all seem to have mirroring posture, with their arms at their side, almost like a child pretending to fly like a bird or plane. Something beyond conventional seems to be afoot–perhaps even supernatural. At the same time, however, some kind of crossover with the world of Barbarian also seems like a possibility, because the promotional site includes an article titled “Underground Prison Discovered in Rental Home,” detailing the events of Cregger’s first film. Regardless, the studio is clearly leaning hard into the mystery angle here.

We will be eagerly awaiting more information and more footage on Weapons, although we have a feeling that the true meaning of the title will be unknown until the film has its premiere. Check out the eerie first look below.
