Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig will Star in a Movie Musical
Photo by Handout/GettyWeird sparks tend to fly when Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig team up. Everything from a bizarre Lifetime movie to presenting at The Golden Globes has been infected with the pair’s odd comedic sensibility, and now they’re bringing that sensibility to the silver screen. Per Deadline, the pair are set to star in a motion picture musical.
Based on Steve Young and Sport Murphy’s book Everything is Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals, the musical will feature music from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who recently produced Hairspray Live. Marc Platt, one of the producers behind La La Land, will produce the project.
As for what the musical will be about, Deadline explains the book’s unique focus:
The book Everything is Coming Up Profits by Steve Young and Mike Murphy reveals how corporate America employed Broadway talent to take part in industrial shows from the 1950s to the 1980s to help motivate sales forces and educate employees on products. Some of those musical shows were actually recorded for posterity and the subject matter lends itself to some great humor as some of these actors had to play inanimate objects (and would fight for those roles) or get overly excited about diesel engines, bathtubs or selling tires while they dreamed of being “somebody.”
Imagine how much fun Ferrell and Wiig could have fighting over which inanimate object they get to play. It seems like their bread and butter.
