All-Women-Directed Horror Anthology XX Trailer Released

Magnet Releasing has revealed the first trailer for the forthcoming horror anthology XX, and it looks so. Freaking. Good.

XX, titled for two x chromosomes, is a series of four short films directed entirely by women, and stars an ensemble of women such as Natalie Brown, Breeda Wool, Melanie Lynskey and Christina Kirk. The badass lineup of directors includes both new and experienced talent, with each director given full creative reign within time and budget constraints. Back when XX was first announced in 2013, producer Todd Brown explained the decision for an all-women director line-up, stating, “One of the givens of so many horror films has been the objectification of young women, and we thought it was time for a different approach to scaring audiences and letting the female voice be heard.” We couldn’t agree more. Watch the trailer above to see just how terrifying and incredible the “female voice” can be.

Karyn Kasuma, the creator of last year’s hit The Invitation, directs a segment of XX titled “Her Only Living Son.” Annie Clark, better known as Grammy-award-winning artist St. Vincent, makes her much anticipated directorial debut with “The Birthday Party.” Jovanka Vuckovic directs the segment “The Box” and Southbound co-director Roxanne Benjamin helms “Don’t Fall.”

The trailer showcases all four segments, and all four look terrifying and unique in their own ways. On Feb. 17, XX will be available in select theaters, on-demand, on Amazon Prime, and on iTunes. See below for the official film poster.
