The rapper was originally expected to release the album today, Dec. 7. The speculation was based on a November tweet that simply said “12-7-18.” Excitement was fueled further by Savage revealing the album art for I Am > I Was on Thursday afternoon.

When midnight rolled around and there was no album in sight, Savage tweeted that he “forgot to drop” his album. It’s most likely a joke at the expense of over-eager fans, but it would not be all that far off the rapper’s deadpan, absurdist public persona to push back a release simply to mess with some people’s heads. (One such person: Los Angeles Laker Lonzo Ball.)
