Al Menne Announces Debut Album Freak Accident

Al Menne, the lead vocalist of Seattle alt band Great Grandpa, has announced their debut album Freak Accident, which is set to arrive September 22 via Double Double Whammy. The project was produced by Christian Lee Hutson and engineered and mixed by Jay Som’s Melina Duterte. Also featured on the LP will be Meg Duffy (aka Hand Habits).

Lead single “Kill Me” finds Menne taking a folk approach, with a lush track that centers their gravitational voice. “Kill Me” is beautiful and patient and reflective, with a rich backing track of sparse percussion. The somber vibes pair perfectly with some of the sweetest production on an acoustic track this year.

Menne has taken a familiar leap on “Kill Me,” as it’s a composition reminiscent of the solo shows they played six or seven years ago while Great Grandpa was off from the road. “I’m bracing myself for that impending come down,” they sing, “by grasping at anything I’ve got around. They said, ‘It gets worse before it gets better.’ Let’s see how deep I can get in the mud.”
