In 2012, the Alabama Shakes began their debut album, Boys & Girls , by chanting, “You got to hold on.” But, in the six years following their musical bow, Brittany Howard and co. have done more than simply hold on—they’ve flourished. Not only was Boys & Girls a breakthrough, Grammy-winning leap, but their sophomore effort, 2015’s Sound & Color , was also a rainbow success.
Now, Alabama Shakes’ stunning entrance is getting an encore. ATO Records is releasing a vinyl “Platinum Anniversary” reissue of Boys & Girls , in stores this Friday, July 13, with the U.S. independent retail-exclusive version featuring a bonus “7 of b-sides. Both versions are also on sale now in the ATO Records web store .
The reissue includes a dreamy pink and turquoise swirl-colored vinyl, “Platinum Anniversary” artwork and, with that independent retail version, b-sides of “Heavy Chevy,” “Mama” and “Pocket Change.” All orders also come with an entry to win a Certified RIAA Platinum Album Plaque commemorating Boys & Girls , with the winner’s name engraved on the plaque. For more details, visit the ATO website .
