Australian singer-songwriter Alex Lahey has shared the video for the title track of her debut album, I Love You Like a Brother.
Lahey been making waves since the release of her album last year via Dead Oceans, building buzz with her infectious brand of punk-pop, featuring inward-looking lyrics that talk openly about her insecure post-college life.
Lahey told Noisey that the song was written in an effort to emulate the catchy, instantaneous rock songs of The Vaccines and The Ramones. Lahey said, “I was sitting at my desk once and I was listening to the first Vaccines record and playing around with three power chords, and the Ramones-style two-minute-song thing. I like ended up singing, I love you like a brother, just like I oughta. And it was like, ‘It’s happening!’”
Lahey said of the new video, which features her real-life brother and was co-directed by her mother, Vicky:
There was no way I could make a clip for “I Love You Like A Brother” without having my brother Will involved. Props to our mum, Vicki, for trawling through old VHS recordings of us as little kids and finding some of the finest peanut butter toast based footage. If you’re going to do anything after watching this clip, give your little brother or your big sister a call just to say hi.
