Beginning a new era, British three-piece Amber Run have announced their forthcoming album Philophobia and released its latest single, “Affection.”
The track is sonically mellowed and puts frontman Joe Keogh’s poignant vocals at the forefront. Detailing emotional turmoil, the track explores the desire to hold a certain significant other close, despite it not being the healthiest of relationships. Keogh sings to open the track, “Trust me, it always turns out the same / Affection is always been a little game / Forgive me, it’s one I’e never understood / Love to me has been as bad as good.”
A chilling ballad, the track follows Amber Run’s 2018 single “Carousel,” but the two songs are practically opposites: “Carousel” sees Amber Run build into a guitar-led anthem, whereas “Affection” strips the band back to their acoustic, ballad ways.
The two singles appear on Amber Run’s forthcoming album Philophobia, which is out Sept. 27. The album is the band’s follow-up to 2017 sophomore release For a Moment, I Was Lost. Accompanying the release of the album in September, the band are setting out on a massive tour through Europe and the United States starting in September and ending in November.
