American Football Explore Modern Isolation in “I Can’t Feel You (feat. Rachel Goswell)” Video

Heralds of Midwestern emo American Football want you to unplug in their new music video for “I Can’t Feel You (feat. Rachel Goswell),” taken from their latest studio effort American Football (LP3).
Shots of vocalist Mike Kinsella driving past streetlights and neon signage are spliced between strangers awash in the liquid glow of cellphone screens and mouthing lyrics. The track itself is delicately poignant, and whatever statement the video is trying to make about technology isolating our generation and destroying intimacy is effective enough to match its character.
“We wanted to approach this concept visually in a way that felt both grounded and surreal,” director David M. Helman said in a statement. “An impressionistic portrait of this growing wave of loneliness using the devices that are supposed to keep us interconnected as our source of light.”
The band released their third eponymous album in March via Polyvinyl, and are preparing to embark on the second leg of their North American tour and play several dates across Asia (where the band will be accompanied by their Sino counterparts Chinese Football on select dates—yeah).
