Anderson .Paak Shares New Song “King James,” Details Forthcoming Album Ventura

Anderson .Paak has shared the first single from his forthcoming album Ventura, titled “King James.” It’s a funky, soulful cut that finds .Paak saluting LeBron James’ activism with the line, “And we salute King James for using his chains to create some equal opportunities.” The track was mixed by .Paak’s Aftermath Entertainment label boss and frequent collaborator Dr. Dre.

Along with the new single, .Paak has also revealed some new details about Ventura, his quick followup to last year’s Oxnard. The genre-defying artist’s fourth solo record is out April 12, and features appearances from André 3000, Smokey Robinson, the late rapper Nate Dogg, Brandy, Lalah Hathaway, Jazmine Sullivan and Sonyae Elise. .Paak announced the news in a tweet on Thursday, saying, “3 years between Malibu and Oxnard … you know I couldn’t do that to y’all again.”

.Paak is currently wrapping up his “Andy’s Beach Club tour” in Europe and has already announced a star-studded run in support of Ventura called the “Best Teef in the Game Tour.” The extensive tour features a performance by bassist extraordinaire Thundercat at every stop, as well as special guest appearances by Earl Sweatshirt, Noname, Mac DeMarco and Jessie Reyez on select dates. The tour kicks off in Nashville on May 17 and concludes in San Francisco on June 27.
