Apple Music Shares List of Top 20 Women in Streaming

In celebration of International Women’s Day today, Apple Music has revealed a list of the top 20 female artists on their streaming platform, with Rihanna topping the list and Paste’s best new artist of 2017, SZA, making the top 10.

Apple’s Beats 1 radio station covered the list last night in a special-edition broadcast of The Chart Show with Brooke Reece.

Apple Music has also launched three brand-new female-centric playlists: “Essential Feminism,” “Who Runs The World” and “Bold Women.” These feature artists like Nina Simone, Dolly Parton, Princess Nokia, Alessia Cara and more.

Yesterday, Spotify unveiled its own effort for gender equality in music with their new tool that shows the gender breakdown of artists you listen to and generates a more gender-balanced playlist for you if your percentages are out of whack.
