Arcade Fire are Finished Recording Their Next Album, May Be Plotting Massive Tour

The path to a new Arcade Fire album is close to having its end in sight. While fans will still have to wait for an official announcement, they can take comfort in the words of drummer Jeremy Gara from a recent interview with Red Bull Poland. While largely discussing his 2016 solo debut, Limn, Gara also offers some updates on his more prominent band.

He notes that the band is almost done and had finished recording, but that they’re still in the process of “mixing and trying to decide which songs will end up on the record.” There was no word on whether this album will end up a double album, like 2013’s Reflektor, or if it will be a more limited affair.

Even though the record is slated to arrive this year, this will mark the longest gap between albums in Arcade Fire’s career.

Discussing touring, Gara seemed to suggest the possibility that Arcade Fire could be on tour for around the next two years. “From my perspective, it looks like Arcade Fire starts in April and finish around April 2019,” he told Red Bull Poland. The band currently has no April shows on the books, with their first show of 2017 being at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona on June 4. There is always the chance that April is simply when the band will start rehearsing for the summer festival season. As he also notes, Gara isn’t quite clear on the specifics for much of the group’s plans, stating, “I don’t know where we’re going to play, I don’t know when we start, or when we finish.”

For fans in need of an immediate fix, Arcade Fire’s forthcoming documentary and concert film package, The Reflektor Tapes/Live at Earls Court is out Jan. 27. Watch the trailer here.
